Of all North-American bears, the black bear is the most common. It can reach a size of almost 5 feet. Females weigh about 200 lbs on average and males about 300 lbs. Their fur color can vary from chocolate brown to cinnamon brown to black but most black bears are of a dark brown hue. In spite of their size, black bears are surprisingly agile. They prefer the forest habitat but move around considerably according to seasons in search of food. |
